According to Shanxi Province-based Chinese steelmaker Taiyuan Iron and Steel Co. (TISCO), the project for the switch from open-pit mining to underground mining at its Ekou iron ore mine in Shanxi has entered its design phase. The mine contains 190 million mt of underground iron ore reserves, while the project targets an annual iron ore output capacity of 7.5 million mt.
